GREER — Greer police are investigating an incident involving one of its reserve officers accused of witnessing to a couple about his Christian faith during a traffic stop. [-snip-] A bumper sticker on the white 1987 Honda that Tony Lee Gainey, 33, was driving when pulled over by Greer police about 11:30 p.m. June 10 reads, "It's a Druid thing." [-snip-] Debra Gainey said she's a minister in the Emerald Sanctuary Druidic Church and holds a doctorate in philosophy and religious studies from Northern Arizona University. [-snip-] Debra Gainey said during the traffic stop, Stewart began talking with her about his religion and told her she should come to Bible class. [-snip-] She also wrote in her complaint that he followed up by sending a letter to their home, which "further violated our rights and invaded our privacy." [-snip-] |
we're utterly shocked that our brother lives this close to such instances of state sponsored religious insanity. We realize that his innate ability to direct attention away from himself* should shield him from immediate complications. But we also know that he's a Roman Catholic, and sooner or later the evangelical christians will get around to dealing with them too. We tried to warn him about the plan to turn South Carolina into a christian nation, but he just said that it would improve his property values.

* - particularly when he is engaging in what many would consider to be questionable behavior, our brother has an uncanny ability to lay blame in any convenient direction but his own. You might say he has a natural SEP field generator. Unless his bioengineering skills are far greater than he has led his family to believe...
