Where Life Is Still (Relatively) Wonderful All The Time

Humpday, 11 Wintring 2008

I'm very happy to inform all and sundry that yesterday marked the sixth anniversary of my humble efforts at bloggy goodness. It was celebrated largely by going unnoticed, until a sudden flash of insight brought realization upon me that the secret is still to bang the rocks together, which led me back to the beginning, which led me to inform you, dear reader, of my blogaversay. And to reflect upon how incredibly lucky I have still managed to be for all those years and more.

Yesterday was also marked by a prolonged encounter with the inside of my eyelids after going through what might be a legendary road trip even by Funny Farm standards. I got the call letting me know when I would finally get a chance to meet Kevin Hayden, founder and blogmaster of the American Street (as well as fellow Streeter Mark Adams) on Friday afternoon as I was on my way to visit friends in the Great White North. I managed to accomplish my mission in the wilds of St. Thomas, Ontario, and beyond, and now the Bud and his missus can both win big on the online poker tables at the same time (thanks to an old ethernet router that I'm not using any more that I remembered to bring with me). So, there's that.

Long story short (and without hopefully telling too many tales out of school, so to speak), Kevin was due to meet with myself, and Mark Adams, in the Toledo area on Tuesday night (as one of the stops on his Word On The Street Tour), but didn't manage to get there until Saturday afternoon. We had a wonderful time Saturday afternoon / evening, and talked about all sorts of things, including a Fearless Funny Farm prediction** for the upcoming selection (hopefully) caught on videotape. Mark and Kevin are both most excellent individuals and it was an honor and a privilege to meet them face to face.

As I was a bit tired from my previous evening's adventures, I chose to leave the party somewhere around 9:30 Saturday night. I also got a chance to visit with a long time friend living in the Toledo area (who generously let me crash on his couch Saturday night) and catch up with him and the roads he's been traveling since we last met. And I'm looking forward to meeting some new family, along with some old friends, in the upcoming weeks. As well as the start of the hockey season this week. And a Montreal Canadiens team (as well as, surprisingly, a Miami Dolphins team) that does not suck this year. So, there's that too...

And now I go back into the world of the white collar worker for (hopefully) another full week of gainful employment in the land of the (cough) free and the home of the brave. Hopefully (there's that word again) my corporate masters have the right kind of shares that can be put in the right kind of hands and get some of the money back from so that the payroll can be met the next time it needs to be.

And, until then, I guess I'll just go bang some rocks together...

* - well, technically it's mostly the bank's, and legally there's probably some LLC or LLP or other corporate entity that would go under if the bar went bye-bye. Until then, it's mostly his wife's and his to run.

** - Fearless Funny Farm predictions are also Frequently False.

But - stranger things have happened.

Just thought you'd like to know...
